Dare to Show Up – To Be Seen
Share
I'm delighted that Disney has started to recreate its old stories. How much more enjoyable it is to watch the live-action version of Cinderella than the old animated one. Around here, we’re definitely big fans of Lily James and Richard Madden’s interpretation of two young people who long for nothing more than to be truly seen for who they are. If you haven’t seen this film yet, I recommend it. Cinderella, released in 2015.
Once Upon a Time Is Still Happening
I've mentioned before how children’s films often hold a seed of truth (article: The Power of Words). This movie seems to hit the core of something deeply relevant in today’s society. One hides behind upper-class clothing, the other behind a lower-class appearance. Each of them plays a role for the other. In the end, neither has any other choice but to remove their masks and be seen just as they are.
The lesson of the story is: Have courage.
Behind the Masks – Towards Authenticity
Things could have gone either way in Cinderella. Their true selves might not have matched at all. Which brings us to another lesson in the story: kindness. Through kindness, they learn to get to know one another, accept one another, and move forward with a shared set of values. Following the pattern of good and uplifting fairy tales, we’ll leave other possible endings unexamined this time.
When you act from your true self, respecting others as the individuals they are, kindness leads only to good outcomes.
Kindness Connects
All of us have surely needed encouragement at some point in life. Someone who’s cheered us on, seen us, and gently nudged us in the right direction. I hope your journey has included many such people who meet you as you are. And I truly hope you’ll continue to find them on your path 💖
You’ll certainly find them in this community.
So, let’s stay courageous and kind!
