The Power of Words
Share
Do you remember a moment when you admitted something you had long buried inside? When you put into words for the first time what you had felt? It’s like a little spell that escapes your lips. Words carry emotion, and once released, they travel through the air, spreading their message to the world around you.
Witches, wizards, and fairy godmothers
Fairy tales and stories are brimming with magic. Words to which rulers of magical powers add feeling and energy. When they hit their target, they have, depending on the universe, the power to sow, grow, stop, make someone fall in love, or even make brooms dance across the palace floors. In our world, we still have to grab the vacuum ourselves. But is that the whole reality? They say fairy tales contain a grain of truth.
True intent
If one truly wills it, words can both delight and enrage. They can create or destroy. Surely you can find an example in your recent past where your words sparked a reaction in someone else. Any kind of reaction. So, is it really absurd to claim that there’s magic in our words?
The most powerful spellcasters in stories are those who know the deepest secrets and hold a genuine connection to the burning source within. Do you always speak your truth? Each of us, for example, has once said “yes” when we really wanted to say “no.” What consequences did that small word have?
A world full of magic
When we gather our strength and feel what we mean, words become unstoppable. So today, I challenge you to make magic! For the rest of the day, follow your words. Notice the little spells you’re casting. Use them with care. And if you find yourself in a situation where you can’t think of anything nice to say, remember the advice Thumper was given in Bambi: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
At this point, I truly wish I believed in mops that dance on their own. But alas, I do not—so talking to the cleaning tools likely won’t solve today’s task. I do, however, believe in modern technology, so I think I’ll pop on my headphones and call a friend. There’s power in those words, because I know we’ll bloom together 😉
